On Saturday afternoons in August, Hatch Editorial Services and Coniferous Café will present “Books, Blogs, and Zines: A Crash Course in Activist Writing.” Classes will be held Aug. 5, Aug. 12, Aug. 19, and Aug. 26, at 3 p.m. at Coniferous Cafe,
42 W. Monroe St., Jacksonville. Cost is $25 per class; $75 bundle to attend all four.
Professional editor Jessica Hatch will draw from historical and current examples of political writing, as well as the successes of her own clients, to bring each lesson to life.
Sip coffee, wine, or your Coniferous Café drink of choice as this four-week seminar as you learn to draft, edit, and promote an issues-based book of your own. Each week’s lineup:
Aug. 5 – Personal Identity and the Power of Words. Find the story you were born to tell, then learn some dynamic research and prewriting strategies to help you tell that story.
Aug. 12 – Building a Productive Daily Writing Practice. Warm up your creative mind with some in-class exercises, and get tips for a writing practice you can be proud of.
Aug. 19 – Editing Strategies to Make Your Work Shine. This lesson is all about opening up that inner editing eye, taking your completed manuscript from rough draft to polished prose.
Aug. 26 – I’ve Written a Book… Now What? Learn promotional tactics every writer should know, as well as how to deploy them successfully.
Get plenty out of one session, but also, each class builds into the next one.
